When planning to sell your home, you should take stock of your home’s amenities and condition and determine what improvements make financial sense.
Fortunately, there is a great resource to help you through the decision-making process. Remodeling Magazine publishes a Cost vs. Value Report (www.costvsvalue.com) yearly. You can customize the report by specifying your geographic location so that the data more closely matches your area.
For instance, according to the Remodeling 2014 Cost vs. Value Report, converting an unused attic space into a bedroom is a winner in San Jose, CA with 136.3% of the cost recouped, whereas the National average for the same project will only recoup 84.3%. That’s a big difference and worth checking into.
